STEPHAN NESVACIL (USA)
It is the worst of times…it is the best of times...try to imagine yourself away from where you presently think.
My work is an exploration into that part in the mind where peace lives. We all have that place, and, when there isn’t enough time to accept what is given, what can be taken away, we keep company there. Invisibly private, it is ours. It is sustaining.
Through the “Cloud / Air Series,” I am exploring that which I need most—relief from the suffocation from the time in which I live—releasing that which I cannot change and looking to what I feel is safety from emotional soreness. To this extent, Turner has been a great influence in my work. I have felt his poignant power of light expressing calm amidst fervor and chaos. The invisible air between the changing colors of his skies has a depth I become enriched by consuming. This idea has been paramount in my observations. Searching for this sense of expansion, of extending motion in time, of a living, breathing safe peace in time, I have reinvented light and plastic. Together, they transform and expand as emotional content as in a Turner sky. These installations and performances are my twenty-first century vocabulary. They become my markers of a pathway to shared understanding of the times in which we, a community of mutually regarding participants, live. Each action is a shamanic gesture, a fractal snapshot, an icon creating metaphors and actions to of the richness of sky, of looking upward to the safety of peacefulness, the transaction of psychological breathing.
